Background
Breast hamartomas, also known as fibroadenolipomas, are rare benign tumors composed of variable amounts of glandular, adipose and fibrous tissue, surrounded by a pseudocapsule.

Material and Methods
We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients older than 14 years who were diagnosed with hamartoma of the breast at the Breast Cancer Surgery Unit of Army General Hospital over a 7-year- period. Clinical, sonographic, mammographic and pathological findings were analyzed.

Result
Thirteen cases of pathologically proven breast hamartomas were identified during the study period. All patients were female with an average age of 45.4 years (range 36-55 years). Nine (69.2%) of the patients presented with clinically palpable lumps. Eight (61.5%) hamartomas were on the left and five (38.5%) were on the right breast. Mammography and ultrasonography was performed in all cases. Macroscopically, all lesions were solitary with maximum diameters ranging between 2 and 4 cm. On microscopic examination, adipose tissue was found in all cases in variable amounts, while pseudoangiomatous stromal changes and microcalcifications were detected in 23% and 30% of the cases respectively. All but one patient underwent surgical excision. No malignant changes were found, but in one (7.7%) patient a local recurrence occurred five years after primary surgery.

Conclusion
Hamartomas of the breast are rare benign tumors. Correlation between clinical and imaging findings is essential. However, the surgical resection is necessary as cases with malignant transformation have been reported in the literature. The recurrence rate is very low.
