Background
Controversy surrounds the management of fistula in ano especially the high type. This study assesses the clinical results of a partial fistulectomy with a closure of the internal opening using a fistular wall flap for the management of high perianal fistulas.
Material and Methods
This technique was performed in 50 patients with this condition, with the aid of a fistulectomy tube. The clinical outcome was assessed in terms of continence and recurrence for a period of 22 months after operation
Result
The technique is easy to perform, results in less morbidity, and provided successful healing in 49 patients. A recurrent fistula occurred in one patient. No continence disturbance was noted during the follow-up period.
Conclusion
This technique is thus considered to be an effective method for managing high perianal fistulas since it was found to demonstrate good results in terms of recurrence and continence
